In ancient Greece, individuals wishing to speak to the Gods for direction and understanding sought out the Oracle of Delphi. It was only through the Oracle that such a connection could be made. Not easy to access, the Oracle resided in a cavern deep beneath the Temple of Apollo with the words “Know Thyself” carved in the stone above the entrance.
Today, astrology is one of the most searched subjects on the internet and might even be considered an equivalent to the Oracle of Delphi. However, it is not a conversation with the Gods that people are looking for, but rather a desire to delve deeper into who they are and why they are here. Venturing on to this path, the vast array of books and potential resources available are mind boggling. Like many others dipping their toes into astrological waters, expensive courses and consultations with professionals were out of reach, so I was left to wander alone through the vast labyrinth of astrology books on the market. Like Theseus in the Labyrinth WITHOUT the golden thread, each book took me in a different direction or lead me back upon ground I had already covered. The problem, I realized, was that I needed a thread to connect each step into the chart so I could find my way out.
Starting out, how do you know what books are for beginners and which ones are more advanced…or, for that matter, even where to begin? Particularly if an expensive astrology course or consultation isn’t an option. What I discovered over many years, and many books later, was a group of like-minded astrology students and astrologers with whom I could compare notes, ask questions, share my perspective, and finally feel confident enough to become an astrologer.
One of the many joys of astrology are the connections you make with others. AstroBookClub is one such place, where three of us came together with a common view, a shared purpose, and a vision to make astrology more accessible while creating a more expansive and inclusive community. Our team represents varied backgrounds, diverse interests, and expertise. Collectively we have more than 90 years of astrological experience that we feel compelled to share with others.
We strongly feel that, in a world where the process of individuation is more important than ever, astrology can truly be the golden thread leading us out of the labyrinth and towards a clearer understanding of our intended path. If we can help expedite the knowledge gathering aspect of that journey, even a tiny bit, we can begin to realize our purpose and help to improve the collective experience.
